Gold Standard’s Policy Requirements and Procedures allow for the certification and crediting of greenhouse gas reductions or removals achieved as a result of the introduction of new policies or regulations.
The Policy Requirements and Procedures create a new route for carbon finance to enable climate action at scale. They provide a financial incentive and mechanism for the introduction of new climate policies, that will directly lead to greenhouse gas reductions or removals.
HOW IT WORKS
The Policy Requirements and Procedures will be applied alongside other requirements under Gold Standard for the Global Goals, such as for safeguarding, sustainable development and stakeholder consultation, with some differences in application to account for differences between policy- and project-level certification approaches.
The Requirements will initially be applied on a piloting basis, within selected jurisdictions. If you are interested in finding out more about this pilot phase, or participation, please contact standards@goldstandard.org.
SUPPORTING DOCUMENT
Gold Standard first published the Policy Requirements and Procedures in June 2024. These requirements and procedures allow for the certification and crediting of mitigation outcomes achieved as a direct result of the introduction of new policies or regulations. This guidance document is intended to support the application of the Policy Requirements and Procedures, explaining key features of the model applied under Gold Standard and associated documentation.
