Eligibility of GRID CONNECTED BIOGAS AND BIOMASS BASED PROJECTS (RC 2020 AR – RE V1.2)

The Renewable Energy Activity Requirements (Version 1.2) (paragraph 2.1.3, page 3) outlines the eligibility criteria and requirements for Grid Connected Renewable Energy projects seeking certification under Gold Standard for the Global Goals.
This rule clarification provides further clarity on applicability of these eligibility criteria pertaining to waste to energy and biomass based project activities supplying electricity to grid.
2. Rule Clarification
It is clarified that:
- Waste to energy projects that involve biogas to electricity generation are exempt from the eligibility criteria and requirements listed in paragraph 2.1.3 of the Renewable Energy Activity Requirements. This project type is eligible for issuance of Certified Impact Statements or Products for a maximum of three Certification Renewal Cycles, i.e., a total of 15 years, unless mentioned otherwise in the applicable Product Requirements.
- Renewable biomass, i.e., biomass residue and/or biomass from dedicated plantations based power project shall demonstrate eligibility as per paragraph 2.1.3 Renewable Energy Activity Requirements to issue Certified Impact Statements or Products under Gold Standard for Global Goals.
